Character full-body thing I’m working on. Bunch of proportional issues (in addition to the general anatomy bullshit that’s always there). Not sure if I’m gonna ink it or not, because I’m kinda bad at that. Might try to paint it for fun but eh.

That said, the character’s name is Sen, and he’s a coydog/akita inu-coyote mix kinda thing. I feel super furry just writing this out, hahaha.

Drawing + reference. Major problem areas I can see right now: mouth (wtf it’s just wrong wow how did that happen), shoulders (left shoulder is too low), general proportions (forehead, nose to eyes, mouth to chin). It feels like the head isn’t connected to the face, something like that. Weird. I bet actually studying human anatomy and doing life drawing will help with that.

All in all better than I thought it would be, but still pretty damn bad. Also opted not to draw her hair because that’s not the point of this; this is just a baseline to see where I’m at right now, and something to compare future drawings to after I’ve finished “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain,” which I’m starting right now. So yep!

Edit: it should be said that I feel like I’ve massively improved in digital drawing, i.e. being comfortable with a tablet. When I started drawing digitally again earlier this year, I was massively uncomfortable and couldn’t really do anything half-okay. So that’s great news. Now I just need to learn how to draw.

Relearning how to use a tablet, and more importantly how to draw.

Relearning how to use a tablet, and more importantly how to draw.

I’ve literally been shitting around inside of a virtual world (WoW) for something like a year, kinda waiting for something to happen, and yesterday I realised that that just isn't right. I’m not even doing anything good in there, like high-end PvP or heroic raiding or something, I’m just… running around and collecting pixels. Why?

The only reason I’m not cancelling my WoW subscription right this instant is because I have a month and a half left and that would be literally throwing money out the window. I’m damn certain I’m not gonna be renewing it until I’ve got shit under control again though. I’ve realised that there’s a big difference between MMOs and regular games, too. Assassin’s Creed, Pokémon, even Skyrim, you finish those games. You do the storyline and (if applicable) all the side-stories if you want and then you’re done. Sure there might be some DLC down the line, but you will be finished with it at some point. MMOs, however, at least the good ones, are never-ending, or at least they seem to be. There isn’t really much to do in WoW at the moment (unless you do hardcore PvP or aren’t done with the current raid tier, neither of which apply to me) because the final raid tier just concluded and there will be no more new major content until the next expansion. So I guess it’s “finished,” in a way. But when the new expansion gets released, it starts all over again; grinding out 10 more levels, getting more gear, raiding more, etc.

Also got over myself and started using my tablet without washing my hands all the damn time. It just isn’t right.

Gonna make a traditional portrait and a character full-body and put them in a sketchbook thread on ConceptArt.org tomorrow. Let’s see how much better I can get between now and April 1st.

Also I quit reddit, except for the art subreddits (/r/SketchDaily and /r/learnart are great). My god that place is such a vile, festering pit of bigotry. I genuinely feel better because I’m not spending so much time on arguing with people over basic shit like “don’t be a dick to people who are different” and “language is defined by usage, not by some arbitrary language council that doesn’t even exist for English.”

I just recently got back into drawing again after being kind of. Stuck I guess. For a year or so. So yeah. I’ve just been drawing the same shit as always with some WoW-themed stuff here and there, easy things, just to get back into drawing. Recently I’ve taken up gesture drawing for ~30 minutes a day though, so we’ll see how that pans out. I really wanna improve on everything. Gonna focus on the male human body for now (as most of my characters are male), and then I’ll do females afterwards, and then start working on specific things like faces and hands from there. We’ll see. Whatever happens, I really just wanna improve, heh.

Testing the drawing capabilities of my Android tablet. It’s pretty good, though I have no doubt that a Cintiq is far better. It’s nice to draw on an actual screen though, hahah. It’s definitely something I have to get used to however.

Typing on this thing is even more of a something to get used to, though. It feels so… Detached and just really weird ffffff.

1. Google image search “flying cat.”

2. ????

3. PROFIT

Wow that was really fun.

Used refs for everything, and the whole thing was inspired by this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtWbpyjJqrU

Cats and also physics and especially physics based on cats are awesome, okay.

Also I’ve started using TED talks as a sort of background, uhm, noise I guess, in place of music. And it’s awesome, there was this one talk about consciousness and aaaa neuroscience is just the greatest thing ever. Also artificial life, wow.

GUYS

I SMELL IMPROVEMENT

THIS IS ACTUALLY AN AWESOME CONFIDENCE BOOST OH MY GOD

So, in order to get back into drawing/improve my ability to draw dogs, I’m going to draw one dog breed every day for a month or so. I want to keep going for a year, but I think I’ll start with a month to see how it goes.

So yeah!

This is a Finnish Lapphund (“Lappish/Sámi dog”); they were, and still are in some places in Finland, used by the Sámi people to herd reindeer. It is closely related to the Swedish Lapphund, as the two were the same dog once upon a time, before selective breeding of these dogs started. Both Finns and Swedes claimed the breed as “theirs,” so in order to solve the dispute, two breeds were approved; the Finnish and the Swedish Lapphund.

Its native name is (Suomen)lapinkoira, which means (Finnish) Lappish dog in Finnish.

Dog 1/365, 6/7.

Pretending like I’m not pissed at Gravatar 了!
