Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Style
I’ve been caring about my art style for way too long now. Specifically my “human style,” if you can call it such. And not in the “oooh, I must have an original art style just like everyone else!”-way either. Well, that too, but mostly in the “holy fuck no, I’m not going to let my style resemble manga/anime in any sort of way.”
How did it take me three years to realise that this is the wrong way to go about it? Okay, so, anime is an awesome style, but it’s too overused. I think that was one of my key points.
But who the fuck cares? I don’t, as long as I can easily draw in that style. I want to draw semi-large eyes and hairspray-murdered hair, and as long as it’s in proportion/generally looks good, why should I care if it looks like anime or not?
Sure, I should probably learn realism first and all, but until I learn how to draw realistic/semi-realistic humans, I’ll need something to draw ‘em in. Because I wanna draw them, dammit, and I don’t always want to practise realism and correctness. Just a doodle style, yanno?
Fuck art stereotypes and fuck comparing styles.
